FAQ

Booking your camper

Is there a minimum rental period for camper hire?

The minimum rental period is at least three nights, regardless of which model you choose. Depending on the season, this minimum may increase.

How many drivers are included in the price?

The number of drivers is not limited. Please provide us with the full details of all drivers (presenting the original driving licence and ID card or passport) no later than when you pick up the camper. Only the person named in the reservation must be present at handover. The deposit amount is based on the youngest listed driver.

You can simply add additional drivers in your customer portal and even upload your driving licence and ID document there in advance to save time at handover. You will receive access to your customer portal with your contract.

Which driving licence do I need?

At the moment we only rent models for which a Class B driving licence for vehicles with a permissible total weight up to 3,500 kg (or the old Class 3) is sufficient.

How old do I have to be to rent a camper?

Young drivers (under 23) are welcome! You just need to have held a driving licence valid for the respective vehicle class in the countries you will drive in for at least one year.

Is there an additional service fee when booking?

The service fee of 149 € for motorhomes and 99 € for panel vans and campervans includes the one-time preparation of the camper, provision of accessories (e.g. gas cylinders, toilet chemicals and AdBlue) and a comprehensive explanation of all important functions and features of the vehicle.

Is there a mileage limit?

Yes, 250 km per night are included in the rental price. That means on a 10-night trip you have 2,500 km included. If you want to drive longer distances, you can increase the limit to 350 km per night for 9 € or book unlimited kilometres for 19 € per night. Each additional kilometre beyond the agreed limit costs 0.20 €.

How is the number of booked days calculated?

The first and the last rental day are each charged at half price. This results in a per-night rental. Similar to a hotel room, you pay for the number of nights within your chosen travel period.

What different types of campers can I rent?

We offer a wide selection of campers for different travel needs. For more spontaneous trips and greater flexibility, we recommend our campervans. If you are looking for more comfort, our motorhome fleet will make your dreams come true. Our panel vans give you a bit of both worlds, combining many benefits of driving and living comfort—ideal for longer trips for two, a group of friends or a family holiday. If you want even more space, you can choose a semi-integrated motorhome or an alcove model.

Which insurance options can I book?

You are covered by our insurance for damage involving other vehicles with an excess of 1,500 €. In addition, Europe-wide 24/7 roadside assistance is included so you can start your adventure worry-free. We also offer additional insurance packages that reduce the deposit amount and include further types of damage depending on the package. The Silver package costs 9 € per night, Gold 19 € per night and Platinum 29 € per night. These can be selected directly when booking the camper and before you start your trip. Can I bring my pet?

Your pet is welcome! For a one-time fee of 99 € you can add our dog package, which covers the additional cleaning after using the camper. As a free add-on to your booking we provide dog equipment so your pet feels comfortable throughout the trip. This package is designed specifically for dogs, but you can also bring other pets.
Please note that the additional fee applies to all types of pets and does not include the standard interior cleaning.

What equipment is included with my camper?

All of our campers and motorhomes come with a table and two stools (a table and two chairs in the VW Bulli) and a kitchen kit. Additional equipment includes a bedsheet, levelling ramps, electrical cable, cable reel, hose for filling the fresh-water tank, a gas bottle, toilet chemicals, as well as a shovel and broom. For your safety, each camper is equipped with a first-aid kit and a fire extinguisher. You can find the specific equipment for each model and all further bookable extras on the individual camper detail pages.

What extra equipment can I add?

We offer many additional extras to tailor your trip to your needs: from bike racks, extra camping chairs and child seats for all ages to a portable camping toilet. Here you will find a detailed overview of all available products. You can add these directly when booking, later via our customer service, or even at handover (if available).

How much does a bike rack cost?

A bike rack for 3 bicycles including tow bar costs 7 €/night. The maximum price per rental is 99 €. The maximum load is 45 kg and the maximum load per rail is 23.5 kg.

Is there a tow bar?

Yes. If you want to use your own bike rack, you can book just the tow bar for 4 €/night.

How can I change or cancel my reservation?

If you would like to add a few days to your original reservation, you can do so in your customer portal, provided your camper is available for those days. You will receive access to your customer portal with your contract.

What rescheduling and cancellation conditions apply to my reservation?

Of course it is possible to cancel or rebook your booking. Please understand that, depending on the time of cancellation and the cancellation option booked, we may have to charge different fees. Standard cancellation terms:

  • You cancel at least 45 days before the pick-up date: no cancellation fees apply.
  • You cancel at least 30 days but less than 45 days before the pick-up date: cancellation costs are 40% of the total rental price.
  • You cancel at least 15 days but less than 30 days before the pick-up date: cancellation costs are 70% of the total rental price.
  • You cancel less than 15 days before the pick-up date: cancellation costs are 90% of the total rental price.
  • Cancellation 48 hours before the pick-up date: no refund.
What are the cancellation conditions for equipment?

The equipment already booked is an integral part of your rental contract. Unfortunately, separate cancellation is not possible.

When do I have to pay for my booking?

You pay a deposit of 30% directly when booking. The full rental amount must be paid no later than 21 days before the agreed handover of the camper. For short-notice rentals, the full amount must be paid directly when booking.

What payment methods are available?

We offer various payment options:

Cash payment is not possible.

How can I redeem vouchers or discount codes?

You can only use a voucher code or discount code during the official booking process to reduce your total price. These codes can only be used for our campers, not for additional products, and only at the time of booking (not retroactively). After one-time use, the voucher code expires.

How do I pay the deposit for my camper?

The deposit with our Bronze protection package is 1,500 € for all campers. For young drivers under 23, the deposit is 2,500 €.

You can pre-authorise the deposit on the pick-up day by credit card. The amount is only blocked for us; your account is not charged. The deposit will be released immediately on your credit card when you return the camper in accordance with our terms and conditions.

After 28 days the hold is automatically released. Please understand that for rentals longer than 28 days, you must pay the deposit amount in full.

Alternatively to credit-card pre-authorisation, you can also pay or transfer the deposit from your customer portal using our payment methods.

Your deposit amount will then be refunded to your account within 14 days once you have returned the camper in accordance with our terms and conditions.

Can I heat my camper?

Yes, of course! You don’t need to freeze. All of our vehicles have an auxiliary heater so it's always nice and warm in the camper. In most cases it's a diesel heater. Some campers or motorhomes are equipped with a gas heater.

What should I consider when renting snow chains?

Snow chains are mounted on the drive axles and ensure safe driving even on snowy roads. When fitting them, make sure the chain and the claws do not rub against the wheel rim or move. Please note that snow chains are not available for all models. During the booking process you can check snow chain availability for the selected camper category and station. If no snow chains are available, many car dealers and the ADAC (in Germany) offer snow chain rental. As tyre sizes vary a lot, please contact us for further information.

The VW Bulli is a bit more sensitive when it comes to snow chains, so please be especially careful. When renting or buying snow chains for our VW Bullis, please make sure the chains are compatible with alloy wheels. If you choose other snow chains (e.g. for steel rims), they will cause scratches, which will unfortunately be charged to you after returning the camper. To avoid this, check whether the chains are specifically suitable for alloy wheels and whether they have rim clips that prevent the chain from touching your wheels and thus avoid scratches. As tyre sizes vary a lot, please contact us for further information.

Preparing for your trip

What do I need to consider when booking a ferry?

We recommend booking your ferry in advance. Please check the length of your camper on the camper detail page. For the license plate field, simply enter "rental car". If you have a bike rack with you, please account for the additional length of 1 m when booking the ferry.

Are there diesel restrictions I need to be aware of?

The latest engine technology (Euro 6d-temp) in our campers and motorhomes ensures particularly low emissions. Therefore, all of our campers meet the highest emissions standards and are approved in every European city.

How do I use child seats in the camper?

You can install any child seat in your camper and secure it with the three-point belt. If you don’t have a suitable child seat, we offer additional child seats at our station for different age groups (infant seat 0–13 kg or child seat 9–36 kg). You can find more details here. You can also check the vehicle specifications to see whether the camper category you selected is equipped with ISOFIX.

What do I need to know about electricity in my camper?

With a fully charged battery you can travel independently without a shore-power connection for around 24 hours. Afterwards the battery can easily be recharged by connecting to an external power source. The battery is also charged while driving, but once it is empty it can only be recharged via an external power connection. This is because the vehicle is equipped with many consumers in the living area that draw on the battery even when not in use. Keep an eye on your battery consumption so you can always rely on a stable power supply and enjoy your trip worry-free! Without shore power, you have lighting, the refrigerator and a 12V socket available. The 230V sockets only work when the vehicle is connected to an external power source. Please note that the time without external power depends heavily on your usage and the outside temperature and can therefore vary.

Picking up your camper

When is the station open?

Our station is open 6 days a week during the pick-up times (14:00–17:00) and return times (09:00–11:00). No pick-up or return is possible on Sundays and public holidays.

When can I pick up my camper?

All campers at our station are usually ready for pickup between 2 pm and 5 pm. Our station team will contact you 2–3 days before your trip to arrange the exact time window for pickup. Please provide your phone number directly when booking or by email afterwards. Earlier pickup may be possible by arrangement for an additional fee and subject to vehicle availability.

Where can I pick up my camper?

Pickup and return of our campers and motorhomes takes place at the rental station. The address will be provided in the booking summary and by email after your booking.

Can I park my car at the station?

Unfortunately, our station does not have a secured area where you can leave your vehicle. However, parking nearby is generally relaxed, so you can usually find a parking spot close by for shorter trips. At the station in Börnsen, we can reserve a parking spot for you, but we cannot assume any liability for your car.

How does the handover of the camper work?

When you arrive at our station, simply contact a staff member or check in at our office. We will guide you through the entire process:

  • Your documents will be checked & scanned
  • If you haven't paid the deposit yet, we will block it on your credit card or charge it to your debit card (please note that for rentals of 30 days or more, we always have to charge the deposit)

Vehicle briefing

Of course our station staff will explain the camper to you in person. In addition, you can take your time and inspect the camper, document the condition twice for your personal protection with your phone (photos & videos), and check whether the standard equipment and any additionally booked equipment is complete and ready for you in the motorhome. If you discover any undocumented damage, please report it to a staff member before signing the contract. We will check it for you and, if necessary, record it in our report. You can then sign your contract with peace of mind. Once you have signed the contract and left the station with your rented motorhome, we unfortunately cannot make any changes to the damage report or the listed equipment for you. The signed contract with the report data will then be sent to you digitally by email.

During your trip

Which countries can I travel to with my camper?

You can travel with your camper and motorhome within the geographic borders of Europe and to non-European countries that are part of the European Union (EU). The contractual territory in which the motorhome may be used includes the territory of the European Union, Great Britain, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Andorra, Albania, North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia (excluding Kosovo) and Montenegro. Outside these borders, the vehicle insurance (in particular comprehensive cover) provides no protection.

Who pays the toll charges?

You pay the tolls yourself during your trip. We recommend checking the toll regulations of the respective countries you plan to visit before you travel. In some countries, pre-registration is required to use ferries, motorways and toll roads. If you want to avoid tolls, check alternative routes outside the motorways. They may take a little longer, but you can save some money and often get a better view. Please note that if tolls are unpaid, the invoice will be sent to us and then charged to you, including penalties and fees.

How do I empty my water tank and water system properly, and what should I pay special attention to?

Before returning the camper (regardless of whether you used the water during your trip or not), there are a few things to note: the fresh-water tank, waste-water tank and lines must be completely emptied. When emptying, never let the water drain through the lines; always use the outlet for emptying the water tank. To completely drain, you can first switch off the water pumps and then drain remaining water by opening the tap and flushing the toilet (don’t forget to close the tap!). Our staff can also show you the exact locations for all important connections at pickup. Don’t worry—it sounds more complicated than it actually is.

What should I consider when heating the camper in winter?

For a cosy camping experience, the right temperature in the camper is crucial. If the water system is used and there is water in the tank and lines, the motorhome must be continuously heated to at least 8 °C. This prevents the water from freezing and causing severe damage to the water system. We recommend the following temperature settings: 18–22 °C while staying in the camper, 16–18 °C at night, 8–10 °C when leaving the vehicle. When leaving a camper with a pop-top roof, please close it to keep the heat inside the vehicle (also with pop-top insulation for the VW Bulli). Regular ventilation also helps maintain a pleasant indoor climate.

How long do the gas bottles last and what do I do if they are empty?

One of the things many of you fear: running out of gas.

Different camper models have different gas systems.

Our vans and panel vans have diesel heating and the refrigerator runs on electricity. In these vehicles you only need gas for cooking. Therefore, a small gas bottle is used in these campers (Campingaz (blue), 2.75 kg filling weight). One gas bottle usually lasts more than 4 weeks. We cannot replace the gas bottles after every rental, so it may happen that the gas bottle in your camper has already been started. If the gas bottle needs to be replaced during your trip, you can exchange one at typical DIY stores, at various petrol stations and at gas bottle dealers. Please keep the receipt. We will reimburse you (once) for the exchange cost of these gas bottles. Exchanging in Central and Southern Europe is usually straightforward. In Scandinavia, it is increasingly difficult to find providers of these bottles. Please keep this in mind when planning your trip.

In our motorhomes, two propane gas bottles are usually installed (grey, approx. 5 or approx. 11 kg empty weight). At least one of them is full and included in the rental price. If the contents of both bottles are running low, you can also exchange or refill these bottles at many stations.

Please only exchange the bottles for bottles of the same model and the same colour, as the gas bottles are the property of Lisa Automobile. We cannot take back other gas bottles.

What should I consider when using the water system in winter?

In the winter months, the motorhomes are handed over completely drained due to the cold temperatures (6 °C or below) so that no water in the system can freeze and damage the entire water system. If water is used during the rental period, the camper must be heated continuously (at least 8 °C) to avoid damage.

We recommend the following differentiated use of the heating in the motorhome and camper models: 18–22 °C while staying in the vehicle, 16–18 °C at night, 8–10 °C when leaving the camper. The VW California Ocean models should be heated to at least level 3.

In addition, the wastewater tap must always remain open and the grey water must be collected in an additional tank (for compliant grey-water disposal). The water system must also be completely emptied when returning the motorhome. You will receive a detailed explanation and briefing at pickup on site so that any questions can be clarified.

Returning the camper

By what time can I return my camper on the last day of booking?

When you pick up your camper, you agree a return time between 09:00 and 11:00 with our station staff. If you would like to enjoy your last day with the camper a little longer, you can book a late return for an additional fee. Availability of a late return depends on the current booking situation.

Can I return my camper at a different location?

We do not offer one-way rentals.

What do I need to consider when returning my camper?

Your camper must be returned at the agreed return time (before 11:00) and at the agreed location (at the station) with a full fuel and AdBlue tank, in working order and cleaned. The (booked) extras must also be returned to us clean.

Can I drive my camper through an automatic car wash?

Please do not drive our campers & motorhomes through an automatic car wash. Self-service wash bays can be used—please observe the stated maximum dimensions.

How clean does the camper need to be when returned?

To make sure you feel comfortable, your camper is handed over to you with the interior freshly vacuumed and mopped and the exterior cleaned. Please return it in exactly the same condition and no additional costs will be incurred.

The following items are always your responsibility before returning the camper (regardless of whether you booked a cleaning package or not):

  • Clean the toilet in the bathroom
  • Empty and rinse the toilet cassette
  • Empty the waste-water tank
  • Clean the kitchen box and the equipment used
  • Empty and sweep out the camper
    If you don’t have time or don’t feel like cleaning your vehicle, you can choose one of our cleaning packages.
  • You clean your camper externally yourself and hand it over to us broom-clean, and we take care of the thorough and complete interior cleaning.
  • You clean your camper internally yourself and we take care of the exterior cleaning.
  • You don’t want to spend long cleaning and hand over your camper broom-clean. We take care of both the thorough and complete interior cleaning and the exterior cleaning.

Prices for our cleaning packages depend on the size of the campers and can be found in the price list and in our general terms and conditions. You can book the desired cleaning package up to 5 days before return. Use your customer portal or contact us by email rent@campersconcession.com or phone +49 (0) 4176 949 11 44. If you have not booked a cleaning package and still return your camper not cleaned or insufficiently cleaned, a damage flat rate for interior and/or exterior cleaning will be charged. If you forget to empty the toilet cassette and/or the waste-water tank, a damage flat rate will also be charged.

Incidents and violations

How should I act in case of damage?

In the event of a breakdown or defect with your camper, please contact the roadside assistance insurer. In the event of an accident, you should inform the local police. In addition, we ask you to report any breakdown, any damage and any accident to us immediately. You will receive all important contact details for the insurance at pickup. If you have an accident, a standard European accident report must be completed on site, signed by all parties involved and handed over to Lisa Automobile—details can be found in our terms and conditions. And please don't stress too much or worry. These things can happen and that's what insurance is for. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us—we're here for you and will make sure you have a great time.

Damage inside the camper:

Please inform us immediately if anything inside the camper is broken or damaged, regardless of whether it was your fault or not. Where possible, we will help you directly in resolving the issue or recommend a suitable repair workshop. At the same time, we will take care of organising spare parts so your camper can be repaired quickly.

Damage caused by force majeure and extraordinary circumstances:

Damage caused by storms, hail, flooding, collisions with wild animals, avalanches, marten bites or other nature-related scenarios is at the customer's expense. In these cases, an excess of 1,500 € applies.

What happens to my deposit if something on the camper got damaged?

In this case, the deposit will initially be retained in full. The amount ultimately retained from your deposit depends on the expected extent of the damage or repair costs. Once we have a cost estimate for repairing the damage you caused, the amount of the retained deposit will be adjusted accordingly. If the damage amount according to the estimate is lower than the retained amount, we will of course refund the difference to you immediately.

With additional insurance:

If you cause damage, your deposit will always be retained in full. If you have booked additional insurance that covers the damage you caused in accordance with the insurance terms, the amount payable will not exceed the excess of your insurance package.

Who is liable for violations during the trip?

You as the renter of the camper are responsible with unlimited liability for the resulting costs and fees for fines (e.g. speeding or illegal parking) or criminal offences. In the event of a data request, we will pass the renter’s data on to the responsible authority. Please inform yourself about specific local legal regulations before travelling to other countries. You as the renter are responsible for complying with country-specific traffic rules and for timely payment of fines, tolls and road-use charges. These are not part of the contract and must be paid by you as the renter.

Is a fee charged for processing violations?

Due to the considerable effort involved in processing authority requests, we ask for your understanding that in the event of an administrative offence we charge an administrative fee of 50 €. This amount is independent of the amount of the fine. You pay the administrative fee to us and the fine directly to the authority.

I did not commit an administrative offence; my camper was never at the stated place. What should I do?

If you didn't do anything, of course you don't have to pay! Please contact the responsible authority. If your objection is upheld, we will of course also waive our administrative fee.
